As we enter 2026, the Greater Houston Business Ethics Roundtable remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a culture of integrity across Houston's business community. This year brings new opportunities to deepen our impact, grow our membership, and champion ethical leadership at every level.
Our organization has long served as a forum for the exchange of ideas, strategies, and best practices in compliance and ethics. In 2026, we are proud to expand our programming, including the Women of Integrity Conference, enhanced scholarship opportunities, and more robust member resources.
Following the enactment of the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations in 1991 and the Delaware Chancery Court’s 1995 warning that corporate directors could face personal liability for failing to oversee corporate compliance, Dr. Bette Stead’s vision for the Greater Houston Business Ethics Roundtable (GHBER) finally became a reality after years of encouraging Houston-area companies to join the effort.
GHBER was founded with four charter corporate members—Baker Hughes, Deloitte, Gulf States Toyota, and Shell Oil Company. Its inaugural meeting was held on June 13, 1996, and for nearly three decades GHBER has been a leading voice in promoting ethics, compliance, and responsible corporate governance throughout the Houston business community.
Dr. Stead has received numerous honors and accolades over the years. Today, we recognize and celebrate her unwavering dedication to GHBER and her lasting contributions to advancing ethics and compliance in Houston’s business community.
